Setting Probe Compensation

Probe compensation controls how a measured point is reported or how a face is defined. The measured value of the center of the probe can be compensated by the radius of the probe tip either away or toward the face.

The following Probe Compensation methods are available:

Method

Point Measurement

Face Definition

Multi Gage will automatically determine which compensation method to apply to measured points.

Multi Gage will automatically determine which compensation method to apply to a face definition.

The measured value is adjusted away from the reference face by the probe tip radius.

The face is located at a best fit plane on top of the probe tip sphere, away from the flat surface (e.g. a tip diameter of 15mm would create a plane 15mm from the measured surface).

The measured value is adjusted toward the reference face by the probe tip radius.

The face is located at a best fit plane on the flat surface (e.g. any tip diameter would create a plane at the measured surface).

The measured value is exactly at the center of the probe tip center in relation to the reference face.

The face is located at a best fit plane through the center of the probe tip sphere (e.g. a tip diameter of 15mm would create a plane 7.5mm from the surface).
