We cannot specify an exact graphics card since every user has varying needs. - Pentium-III or higher processor is suggested. - 128MB of RAM is recommended but significantly more may be required if working with large CAD models. - A minimum of 250MB of free hard drive space for the application. - SVGA capable monitor. - CD-ROM drive. ****************************************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************************************** 2) Information about this release. We at Wilcox Associates are proud to bring you this new version of PCDMIS 3.5. The testing of this version has been significant. We’d like to take a moment to discuss this process and also make you aware of the various components of testing. Testing is comprised of two parts. These can be described as functional testing and integration testing. The vast majority of testing effort goes on in the functional area. This is the testing that determines that specific functions that are core to the software, regardless of what type of machine is used, are working correctly. The integration testing is essentially a testing of the interface with a particular type of machine. In the ideal scenario, WAI would have access to at least one of every piece of hardware that is operating in the field running PC-DMIS. However, in practical terms, this is impossible. This integration test plan is then performed on as many types of machines as we have available. Unfortunately, there will inevitably be machines to which we do not have access and that cannot be fully tested in this manner. To this end we have made an effort at closing this gap by partnering with our customers through the Beta Test Program. On the following pages you will find an application for this program. We urge you to consider signing up for the program as it provides the mutual benefit of helping us create the best product possible for you, our customer. The enclosed machine list includes all of the configurations that have been fully tested at the integration test level. If you have a machine that does not appear on this list, it does not mean PC-DMIS 3.5 will not work with your system. It does, however, indicate that we have been unable to test specific equipment configurations. Should you experience problems with your system after installation of PC-DMIS 3.5, it could possibly be an integration problem. If it is a problem of this nature, it will probably be evident immediately upon first use of the previously untested configuration. Should such a problem materialize, you will be given the highest priority for correcting these problems. Please call Tech Support immediately to report any integration problems. For existing users of PC-DMIS who currently have earlier versions of PC-DMIS installed, it is advised that PC-DMIS 3.5 be installed into a new directory. In this way, you can be assured of continuous use of the existing version should problems arise with this newer version. ****************************************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************************************** 3) Beta Test Site Agreement Form As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the quality and ease of use of PC-DMIS®, we would like to actively involve our key customers in the development cycle. Initial Release Date: August 23, 2002. **** Prior to the release of Version 3.5, Version 3.25 was last official release of PC-DMIS by Wilcox Associates, Inc. and the Brown & Sharpe Metrology Group. ------------------------------------ NEW FEATURES IN VERSION 3.5 ------------------------------------- **** A New user interface layout was created that made it possible to include the following features: - User specific layout profiles that are accessed and saved based on the Windows OS User Name. - Layouts that are user customizable for every different operator. - Support for adding/removing menus via a new interface Customize dialog. - Support for adding/removing buttons to toolbars via the Customize dialog. - A dockable Edit Window. **** Support was added for 32 bit character set languages including translations of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. This now makes it possible to translate PC-DMIS into any language commonly in use in the world based on customer demand and local support. **** All of the PC-DMIS saved settings contained in the formerly used PCDLRN.INI file were transferred to the Windows Registry for better protection, usability, and performance. Along with this: - A Settings Editor was created that provides access to the PC-DMIS specific items in the Windows Registry for ease of changing, saving, exporting, importing and deleting while not in the PC-DMIS environment. - Auto Feature parameters were added into the Windows Registry saved settings. - Registry settings for automation were also added. - A ClearWAIKeys.exe utility was also created to facilitate complete removal of PC-DMIS settings from the Windows Registry. - New installations of version 3.5 will automatically search for the PCDLRN.INI file and copy the settings into the Windows Registry if the file exists. **** A new Quick Start toolbar was created to assist operators by creating a more simplified user interface. Easy graphical access is now provided to feature measurement routines, Auto Features, Dimensions, and Constructions as well as having many predefined measurement routines useful in creating relationships and alignments. It is also inclusive of easy access to probe utilities. **** Direct CAD translators are now available for Unigraphics, CATIA, and Pro-Engineer. This is an ability to provide one-pass CAD file translation when the Direct CAD Interface (zero-pass, zero translation) is not available and two-pass file translation (IGES, STEP, VDA, etc.) is undesirable. ---PROBE UTILITIES--- * Automated probe calibration of all tools in a probe changer or stylus changer rack. * Identifiable parameter sets are now used in probe calibration that allow the user to save calibration specific information such as prehit, move speed, hit points and associate them with a specific probe file. * The full path name of the currently used probe file is shown in the Probe Utilities dialog and can also be seen in the Edit Window. * Access to the Search Path from the Probe Utilities dialog is now available. ---SCANNING--- * Rotary Scan capability which allows scan at a fixed distance about an axis and parallel to that axis and with freedom of movement in that axis. * UV patch scans can now be easily defined and created though the scan dialogs. * Scanning with FINDNOMS, RELEARN and no CAD will construct a curve from the new data and compares the closest points of the curve to the original scan points. This allows analog scanning with a comparison to a previous data set. * Added option to maintain current hit increment at the end of a patch scan line to the next line segment. This is to produce smoother data for surfacing and reverse engineering applications. This is for TTP only. * An Auto Move capability similar to that used in Auto Features was added to all scan types. * An ability in Scanning to reset boundary points back to zeroes. This is particularly useful when creating consecutive patch scans with a lot of boundary points. * A NULLFILTER method was added for taking points in Direction 1 with anolog probes to maintain a regular hit interval based on the Point Density and not filter these points based on the hit increment. ---CONSTRUCTIONS--- * The construction of arcs and lines from scans is now possible. * Ellipses can now be constructed from points. * Added support to create an intersection point between an ellipse and a line. ---DIMENSIONS/STATISTICS--- * Added the symmetry dimension. * Added the ability to save the state of datum conditions for true position dimensioning for repetitive dimensioning for similar features. * Added the ability to put a limit on the number of characters that can be entered into a trace field value. The default is 15 but this can now be set to a smaller number. * Added the ability to dump/delete the XSTATS11.TMP file from inside the PC-DMIS environment. * Added the ability to display dimensions and constructed features from an attached part program in feature list boxes. * Limited the feature list for dimensions to appropriate feature types for the Dimension dialog that has been opened. * Added the ability to only show dimensions in the report that falls within a specific percentage of the defined tolerance. * Forced Point Info and Dimension Info dialogs to redraw when the underlying dimensions are updated in learn mode. * True Position deviations can now be displayed as radial deviations in addition to diametrical. * Automotive industry standard abbreviations can now be displayed in conjunction with True Position dimensions to illustrate the direction of deviation. * Added the ability for profile dimensions to display the contour plot or the color interpolation regardless of the types of scans or features used. * The nominal dimension for Angularity can now be automatically filled when selecting (2) features. * A Delete Dimensions dialog is now availble and can be activated from the Graphics Window as well as the menu item. * A Database Wizard was created to facilitate easy creation or registration of ODBC compliant statistical databases. ---FEATURES--- * Edge Point Only Mode for learning new edge points. * Added the ability to edit feature hits for some Measured and Auto Features in the graphics window. * Added the capability to control the amount of each radius measured on Round Slots in Auto Features. * Find Vector (Vector Point) now works for a group of box-selected points rather than just one. * Modified some complex dialogs to include “Advanced” and “Basic” buttons for better viewing. * Added a browse button on the External Command dialog. ---CAD--- * Improved Best fit and re-pierce CAD to find better nominal information. * Added support for the STL file format. * Added the ability to associate one CAD file with multiple part programs. * Added the ability to mirror and keep the old CAD data so that is possible to get both halves of a symmetrical part. * Added support for selecting from all available coordinate systems within a given DCI. ---GRAPHICS--- * Added the ability to place the color contour mapping of scan profiles directly on the CAD image. * Added the ability to display the tessellated image of a DCI part even if the CAD license is not currently available. * Added a dialog to access the Display Points as Spheres option. * Added support for continuous scanning simulation. The probe will flow along the part when using an SP600 probe. ---MASTER/SLAVE--- * Extended the use of the Execute From Cursor mode to include master and slave modes. * Added the ability to show both probes, machines and readout windows for master/slave setup. ---OPERATIONS/EXECUTION--- * Hot keys to switch between round and flat guess modes for manual machines. These combinations are Ctrl+Shift+R and Ctrl+Shift+F. * Added the ability to move all axes [5] simultaneously (DCC machine and PH9 type wrist). Note: Not all brands of machine controllers support this option. * Added an option to not display the dialog box or warning during execution for External Commands to aid with automation. ---------------------------- MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS ------------------------------- * All menu items now are associated with icons to assist in the internationalization of PC-DMIS. * The appearance of PC-DMIS was modernized with new icons to assist in differentiating version 3.5 from previous versions. * A new Windows Layout toolbar allows users to customize and save several layouts of the PC-DMIS operator environment. * Automated to the fullest extent possible most standard probe changers. Particularly the Renishaw ACR1 (Autochange). * A progressive software upgrade structure for PC-DMIS was created that includes three different levels of PC-DMIS. These levels are referred to as PC-DMIS Pro, PC-DMIS CAD, and PC-DMIS CAD++. These 3 levels provide an optimum of selectionability at the time of purchase and are customizable to each individual user requirement. * A new variable type called “Structures” was implemented. A Structure is a type of variable that can contain sub-elements ---------------------------------------- OTHER ENHANCEMENTS ------------------------------------------ 212825 A warning was adding to the Opt. Probe dialog when changing any settings since changing these parameters can significantly affect analog scanning performance and accuracy. 212684 The Ctrl+Shift+End key combination will now place the cursor at the end of the Edit Window while in Summary Mode. 211140 Message boxes now appear to alert users that their software contract is about to expire. 211042 PC-DMIS now shows arrow heads on lines in the graphics window to show direction. 210755 The ability to find nominals on a specific surface for any given point was added. 210645 A special sheetmetal toolbar was added for PC-DMIS Pro. 210526 A combination selection box was added for selecting probe files. 210449 Base components of probe file descriptions are retained when creating new probe files. 210447 A new File Options toolbar for the common File menu options was added. 210055 A Browse button was added to help in creating customized toolbar buttons. 209907 Vertical mounting of some probe changers is now allowed (MCR20, SCR200, SCR600, ACR1). 209735 Pop-up text boxes now reflect learn-time array values. 209636 A new menu item was added for Edit Command. This was previously only available with the F9 key. 209573 Warning messages concerning probe head rotation now include information about the angles. 209500 The Insert Tip Calibration command now has a dialog. 209426 During simultaneous on-line/off-line program execution, only the active part program execute dialogs will be shown. 209238 More user selectable control is available for probe calibration. 209027 An Edit Tool button was added to the Master/Slave Calibrate dialog. 208941 Automatic feature recognition was added for Auto Cone. 208821 Scroll bar positions with feature select list boxes now commence from the end of the list. 208513 High points can now be found from groups of points rather than just scans or feature sets. 208235 The Edit Window will now open automatically when importing programs from previous versions. 207506 The full file name of DCI files can now be illustrated. 207320 Group selecting in the Point Info dialog list boxes is now possible. 207083 Master/Slave setup can now be entered without opening a part program. 206780 New True Positions dimensions can reference previously defined datums thereby reducing the amount of selecting required. 205977 The accuracy of showing path lines has been improved. 201536 UV scan direction can now be reversed by reversing the start and end points in the UV Scan dialog. ****************************************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************************************** 6) MMIV Setup Intructions (Optional Module) D:\u\mm4\doc\readme.txt Important infomation to a user converting from Unix MM4 to MM4 for NT. 1.) MM4 must be run in NT 4 SP6 or Windows 2000 on an NTFS formatted drive. You must have administrator privileges to install. TCP/IP services must also be installed. 2.) The first time that MM4 is run, the XVision server will ask if it can optimize itself. Choose yes. 3.) MM4 NT is based on the latest unix version: 4.65 4.) Before running a machine, the correct parameter file (from the old unix system - Sharpe protocol controllers only) must be installed. Failure to do so can result in a machine which vibrates uncontrollably because the servo gains are not set. MM4 still does volumetric compensation, requiring a comp.bin file in the /u/mm4/sys_data/files directory. (Be sure to copy over the comp.asc file and recreate the comp.bin file with the /u/mm4/xeq/comp.exe program to create the comp.bin file.) (See item 14 about binary file compatibility). 5.) The following previously optional packages are now standard: Contour, Sheetmetal, Utilities (includes autoqual), Languages, 321 Alignment and Cadman. 6.) The following items have been removed: Install optional Software, Avail translator, Merge, imbedded card support, and Datapage realtime support (chart, exception, feedbck, and macro). 7.) Do not use the Windows title bar 'X' to close a window. Doing so on some windows (such as the console debug window) will cause a crash. 8.) Com port names: In the SOI->Port Configuration window, the Port name for the controllers will no longer be /dev/tty1a, /dev/tty2a, etc. The new names will be /dev/com/1, /dev/com/2, etc. 9.) Attempting to run MM4 NT in certain NT color settings (such as 65,536 colors) may result in some icons being displayed incorrectly. ('Done' button is just a green box instead of a green check. Abort' button is just a red box instead of a red X). If this situation occurs, simply change the NT color setting to another value, such as 'True Color', etc. This can be done by right clicking on the NT desktop, selecting properties, then clicking on the settings tab. Also, because some windows are slightly larger, running in 1024x768 or higher is also recommended. 10.) MM4 is printing to the default Windows printer, but you still need to have the correct printer selected inside of MM4. Printer 2 and Printer 3 are not available as separate printers. 11.) On shutdown, sometimes it is necessary to manually close the soi window using 'X' after 'Clean-up' is displayed. (RemAv(0), vtc received 0 shutdown requests) 12.) To open a unix 'korn' shell, click on D:\NutCRoot\mksnt\ksh.exe or D:\Program Files\Mkstoo~s\mksnt\ksh.exe. 13.) Access to the vi editor is thru the korn shell only. See item 12. 14.) Due to padding issues between Unix and NT, any binary files (such as libraries, alignments, tipfiles, comp files etc.) will have to be regenerated in NT. To recompile a library in NT, use LibGen.exe: 'LibGen liblist'. Not recompiling a library will cause MM4 to give a 'FindFunc' error. Subroutines should also be recompiled using the DoOne script. (i.e. DoOne MySub) 15.) Any user scripts which contain ascii escape sequences (such as for setting foreground, background color, etc) will be displayed incorrectly in NT console window. This is due to NT not supporting those sequences. It is recommended that users simply remove these sequences. 16.) 'Error: Can't open display: :0.0' error troubleshooting: a.) Inside the control panel, under 'Vision Communications', under the 'Transports' tab, TCP-Unix needs to be set to Available or enabled. For best results, USP-TCP & SPX-Unix should be disabled. b.) Try manually starting the Xvision server by going to Start->programs->vision->Xvision server. Once the Xvision server is running, you should see a green "XV" icon in the system tray (next to the clock). Note: This server should normally start itself about half way through the SOI.exe loading processes. If it doesn't, go to the control panel, click on 'Nutcracker', go into 'NutC 4 Options', pull down to the 'X Windows System Settings' category, change the 'Xserver Setting' from 'none' to 'registered'. Highlight 'SCO XVision' and a green checkmark will appear next to it. Finally click OK. The Xserver will start automatically next time. c.) Make sure that TCP-IP services are installed. Go to the control panel, and click on 'Network'. Under the 'Protocols' tab, 'TCP/IP protocol' should be shown. d.) In the control panel, select 'Vision Profiles'. Make sure that 'MMIV' is the active profile. If something other than that is displayed (like 'Xremote'), select the profile called 'MMIV' by pulling down the list Under "Always use this profile" and highlight MMIV. Click Properties->Advanced->Associations->Change->Browse and select the C:\u\mm4\xbm\ folder, change Files of type to All and select bs_icon.bmp. e.) If you get the message "Cannot open default font fixed" when XVision starts, change the font property: Start->Settings->Control Panel->Xvision Profiles Under Properties->Fonts, highlight the D:\PROGRA~1\Vision\FONTS\MISC and Remove Under Properties->Fonts, highlight the D:\PROGRA~1\Vision\FONTS\75DPI and Remove Add->Fonts folder->Add double click 75Dpi and hit the Add button Add->Fonts folder->Add double click Misc and hit the Add button OK button Restart the XVision server (if running) by pointing the mouse at the XV on the task bar, right click, Restart. Note: Occasionally, 100Dpi fonts get loaded instead of the 75Dpi fonts. This will cause some Icon Text in MM4 to be clipped. If doing the above does not show the 75Dpi fonts when adding fonts, they will have to be copied in manually. Copy from the CD the Xvision\Fonts\75Dpi files into the C:\PROGRA~1\Vision\FONTS\75Dpi folder, then repeat item e above. 17.) In order to make MM4 more like a Windows application, the cursor is no longer being restricted. 18.) When using the tar command from a korn shell, the device name is required: tar t is now tar tf a: tar x is now tar xf a: tar c is now tar cf a: tar r is now tar rf a: l and lf are SCO Unix extensions, use ls -l and ls instead. ******************************************************************************************************
